Dispatches:
News from Atlas Games

Monks Invade

Just a quick update from the guy who does most of the box-hauling around here: The Black Monks of Glastonbury is in the warehouse, and shipping to distributors worldwide!

In other shipping-and-receiving-related news, we have estimated delivery dates from our printer for upcoming titles Last Hero in Scandinavia (expected to arrive July 14th) and Gorilla Warfare (expected to arrive July 22nd). The latter may arrive while I'm away at Gen Con, in which case it is likely to sit in our warehouse for a few days and get shipped out right after the show.

Feng Shui: The Movie

Well, not quite. But author Chris Jones of Occult Lore, Sacred Ground, and soon Feng Shui fame developed the story for an episode of a independent web film called "Lady X." He calls it "cheesy fun ... something to cool my little brain down after a day of writing." You can check it out at http://www.ladyxfilms.com/theater/e04/episode_04.shtml

Origins

Any of you readers who will be attending the Origins convention in Columbus, OH this week should come by the Atlas Games booth and say "hello." I'll be there every day of the show to answer questions, show off new products and old favorites, demonstrate our games, recruit Special Ops agents, debunk rumors and start some juicy new ones. It's just me from the Atlas offices this year, though I will be joined (or guided) by our jolly and wise convention staff, too. Please come by and suggest some place for me to eat in the Columbus area. I'm the bloke who says "word" all the time and acts like he's joking even when he's not funny.

State-of-the-Art Telegraphy

I have long wanted to get this page looking a little more like it does now. There are a few kinks to be worked out yet in the archives (accessible through the link above), but we're getting there.

Retailers Get a Home of their Own

In case you hadn't noticed ... there's now a "Retailer Gate" button at the bottom of the welcome page. This is our new area designed for retailers. It includes info on our schedule of releases, sales points for new products, info on how to request demos in your store, and news items of interest to retailers. Enjoy!

Monks on a Truck

We got word today from the printer of The Black Monks of Glastonbury. The book is done and on a truck to our warehouse. We expect to receive it next Tuesday, June 24th, and we will ship the book to distributors ASAP.

Attention Store Owners!

If you own a game store or are the coordinator of a convention and would like host an Atlas Games product demo, just fill out the form at the bottom of the Special Ops info page -- www.atlas-games.com/specialops -- and send it to michelle@atlas-games.com.

We'll post your request on the Special Ops discussion group web site, so that interested demo team members can get in touch with you directly!

Apes, Vikings, and (Strangely) Vikings Again
Gorilla Warfare is about to stride on its knuckles right out of the office and off to the printers. Last Hero in Scandinavia, our Rune/d20 System Coriolis title, is being pruned and prepped for its longship voyage to the bindery, too. I just got a chance to read Last Hero for the first time and I think it's everything that's good about Rune with all the new treats d20 System fans look for. Yes, this is a linear adventure campaign, and gloriously so. If you've played the video game title Rune, then you've got a pretty good idea what to expect from Last Hero: death-dealing dwarven technology, wily goblin traps, grim hordes of evil Vikings, and journeys into the bizarre realms of Scandinavian mythology. Play Last Hero as a single, big adventure (taking PCs from 2nd to 7th level) or pull out the wicked encounters Chris (Dynasties & Demagogues) Aylott has crafted to challenge even the mightiest warriors and use them here and there in your ongoing campaign.

Here's the weird thing: both of these two new books have Vikings in them. Yes, even the monkey book.

I swear it's not because we're in Minnesota.

Penumbra Classic Adventures Bundle

In August 2000, Atlas Games made gaming history with the release of Three Days to Kill by John Tynes, the very first Open Game License product available for sale to the public. Since then, the Penumbra line has set the standard for quality in independent D20 System products.

Now, with the Penumbra Classic Adventures Bundle, today's players are given a chance to acquire the early classics of the Penumbra line all together at a special price. The bundle includes Three Days to Kill by John Tynes, In the Belly of the Beast by Mike Mearls, The Tide of Years by Michelle Nephew, and Maiden Voyage by Chad Brouillard. This is a $38.80 total retail value, for just $19.95 -- a savings of almost 50%!

Key Features

Compatible With Your World: Penumbra adventures are designed for easy integration into existing fantasy worlds with minimal effort.

Resources Galore: Penumbra makes a point of including a healthy helping of new D20 System rules, monsters, magic items, spells, and more. We work hard to make sure Penumbra game material is innovative, balanced, and ready to insert into your game world.

Clear OGC: Penumbra products clearly delineate Open Game Content in the formatting of the sourcebook, so it’s always easy to identify rules material that you can lift for your own use.

South of the Sun: Now in PDF Format

Today I finished the picture and map scans for South of the Sun, one of the earliest Atlas Games publications. More than a decade before Nyambe, our first foray into a fantasy Africa was this Ars Magica™ 2nd Edition sourcebook about the mythical kingdom of Prester John and surrounding wonders, written by Thomas M. Kane.

Back in 1991, when this book was published, we used a combination of computer layout and mechanical paste-up (we didn't own a scanner until 1993, when we invested in it for the first edition of Once Upon A Time), so I had to dig out the original camera-ready copy to make scans to place in the layout files. The final result is a PDF file, bringing this long out-of-print book to today's Ars Magica players. The download costs $7.95, and is available today from RPGNow.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 4, 2003

Penumbra Fantasy Bestiary Gets Loose

The Penumbra Fantasy Bestiary has arrived in our warehouse and will soon be making its way to distributors, retailers, and you. You can get two new, free monsters and pre-order the book at our official website.

A few copies of the book have already gotten loose, however, and are now roaming the countryside. The book is very large, but is not dangerous if handled correctly. If you happen upon a Penumbra Fantasy Bestiary in the wild, we recommend you grab it firmly in both hands and gently flip its pages to pacify it. Then, once the book has calmed down (it may begin to purr), you'll find it's safe to take home. (Standard Care: page through the Bestiary at least once per week, perhaps when planning your next adventure, and feed it 3 to 4 Hit Dice of PCs every 7 to 10 days.)
