News from Atlas Games
Ahhhh, January in Minnesota
It's minus 24 degrees Farenheit outside here in the Twin Cities this morning, with a wind chill of -43. Thank heaven for hot coffee!
Faerie Stories Outtake on Pyramid
Phil Masters and Neil Taylor wrote to let us know that
Pyramid is publishing some
Ars Magica adventure material that didn't fit in their recently published book,
Faerie Stories. Part 1 of "The Fallen Castle" is now at
Pyramid, and part 2 is coming next week. Subscribers can read it at
http://www.sjgames.com/pyramid/login/article.cgi?4476, and non-subscribers can get a teaser at
http://www.sjgames.com/pyramid/sample.cgi?4476.
Feng Shui's Oldest Promise
Look on page 232 of the original Daedalus edition of
Feng Shui and you'll find reference to a book that doesn't exist. On page 210 of the Atlas Games edition of
Feng Shui, that book is mentioned again. Here it is now, almost a decade later, and still this mysterious book has not surfaced.
Set the timer. Light the fuse. Soon it will finally be time... to
blow up Hong Kong.
Dungeoneer Reviewed
On RPG.NET, they posted
a review this past week of
Dungeoneer 2nd Ed.: Tomb of the Lich Lord and
Vault of the Fiends. If you haven't tried out this game yet, check it out and learn about what you've been missing!
Shameless Pimping
Inside sources -- Chris Pramas, CEO of Green Ronin, to be specific -- tell us that our intrepid
Ars Magica line editor, David Chart, has been shamelessly inserting plugs for
Ars into his latest Green Ronin project. Chris tells me, "I just finished doing my development pass on David Chart's
Medieval Player's Manual for our Mythic Vistas line. He references so many Atlas and
Ars Magica products within that I may have to charge you an advertising fee. :)"
It sounds like David's book will be an excellent addition to Green Ronin's already excellent Mythic Vistas line, and probably a book of interest to Ars fans as well!
Iron & Silk is Shipping
Our first book of the new year of the monkey,
Iron & Silk for
Feng Shui, has come back from the printer and is now safe in our cold, cold Minnesotan warehouse. In a few weeks, when it reaches your friendly local game store, it should be toasty warm and ready to read. Get a look at the book yourself with our three-page PDF preview available for download at the link above.
In other news, we are now accepting pre-orders for
Love & War (our next
Penumbra title),
Living Lore (the next
Ars Magica book), and
Sticks & Stones (the much-anticipated expansion for
Lunch Money). If you can't wait to get your hands on any or all of these new expansions, click on over and place your orders now.
Find Your Friendly Local Game Store
Our
Retail Locator page received it's much needed update today. Now the page sports
Danish and
Italian game stores! Plus, of course, new shops here in the States. For whatever reason, a good deal of these new shops seem to have come from Michigan.
Have you got a favorite local game store? Share it with us and the customers in your area who might not know about it yet. Games are about getting together with other players, after all, so help us get more gamers together in your area. Send us an email to
info@atlas-games.com with the name, address, phone number, email address, and website address (however much you can find out) of your favorite store. As you can see from our website, we've got whole states without a representative store. How can that be? (Illinois, I'm looking in your direction.)
Oh, and if you notice some errors or broken links or other gaffs on the
Retail Locator page, let me know that, too.
It's new product announcement time...
Cause & Cure
An Ars Magica Adventure
by Michael Geller and John Kasab
The Misty Palace is a place of danger and self-reflection, where the characters' actions determine whether they live or die. They must face themselves on a footing where there is less difference between magus and mundane, deacon and ditch-digger, grog and grape-grower than in Mythic Europe. The characters must learn more about themselves in order to survive.

Off To Press: Living Lore (Ars Magica) and Love & War (d20)
Monday we sent two books to the book printer -- the newest supplements for our Penumbra d20 line and for
Ars Magica. Both are scheduled for release in February (though given the typical longer turnaround time for hardcovers, we expect them back in the latter part of the month).
Soon to Arrive: Iron & Silk (Feng Shui)
We also got word today about the book currently at press --
Iron & Silk, the
Feng Shui player's guide to improvised weapons. We've been told to expect the book to arrive at our warehouse on January 22nd. If all goes according to plan, we'll be shipping books out to distributors before next weekend!
Parlez-vous français?
If you do speak French, you might enjoy this link I came across tonight: http://www.roliste.com/evtuafr.jsp -- it's a discussion with the folks who are working on the French edition of
Unknown Armies, which will be published by 7eme Cercle. Even if you don't speak French, you may enjoy the stunning original images that are being done for the French version.
Dork20 + Dynasties & Demagogues = New Feature
Dork20 co-designer Noah Sax offers up a new way to use the
Dork20 cards with the personality rules from
Dynasties & Demagogues.
Have a look at them right here.
Have you got some clever new way to use the cards in your game, be it for one-shot adventures, full-length campaigns, special settings, or anything else? Let us know!
Send us your idea in the body of an email message and, if we like it, we'll post it on our website for everyone to enjoy.
Looking Forward
Since I'm here, let me also say that I'm really looking forward to this next year's worth of
Feng Shui books. I've just sent the printer's proofs for
Iron & Silk back, approved and all. So we should see that book before long. Shortly thereafter I'll start headlong into
Friends of the Dragon, Keith Baker's new sourcebook on creating characters as a group and creating character groups. I really can't wait for that. After that, maybe this summer, it looks like we may finally then have a
Feng Shui title the devout
have been waiting for. I don't want to jinx it, though, so I'll stay quiet. For now.
Postmodern Magick Goes Digital
Since the seminal
Unknown Armies supplement,
Postmodern Magick, has been sold out for a few months, I finally got around to creating a PDF version for digital sale/download. It's now available on RPGNow, and here's a direct link: http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=2323
This is easily the most popular of all the UA supplements, for obvious crunchy reasons as it's full of new schools of magic and the like. It's also one of the biggest UA supplements, with 192 pages of text (and in the PDF there are three more pages of covers included).
Atlas Games Presents
Friends of the Dragon
The Feng Shui Player's Guide to Character Teams
by Keith Baker
SWAT teams, biker gangs, Yakuza hit squads, vampire hunters, war vets on the run who drive around helping people ... A team of action heroes is greater than the sum of its parts, even when the parts are martial arts masters and poets with pistols. Every band of Secret Warriors is different, but the individual members always share certain qualities. Now they can draw real strength from their teamwork.
Friends of the Dragon is the player's guide to creating character groups for
Feng Shui. Create characters with shared histories and close personal ties or assemble a team of unlikely comrades with a common purpose. Turn the character creation process into a job for all the players to share. Forge backstories and motivations so strong that they drive whole campaigns. Cast a collection of action movie characters so compelling that they-not the villains-become the prime movers of every adventure.
This all-new sourcebook presents new options for character creation that both players and gamemasters can use. Friends of the Dragon offers advice and guidelines that will enrich any Feng Shui game. Plus, this book introduces a new kind of schtick to the game: the Group Schtick!
