Seven Serpents Slides toward Stores
On Friday we picked up the print run of
Seven Serpents, the most recent Penumbra title, and the newest in the "campaign sites" series. It's chock-full of draconic goodness, being a collection of dragon lairs to challenge a wide range of d20 character parties. Watch for it very soon in a game store near you!
If you are interested in the book and spot a copy, don't dally. We printed this one to pre-orders -- meaning that while your local game store may be able to place a reorder (if their suppliers have extra copies on hand), none of our distributors will be able to reorder from us, and in fact we had to turn away orders that were submitted after the deadline (when we'd already set the print run). The book is available through
Warehouse 23, in limited quantities, but we are not making this title available through Amazon or any other bookstores (since returnability would pretty much mess up the whole print-to-order thing).
Beer Money Stein
Show your drinking buddies that you are indeed OLDER - FASTER - STRONGER with the Beer Money ceramic stein from Cafe Atlas! Check it out at www.cafeshops.com/atlasgames
Might This Be What You Were Looking For?
I know that somewhere out there, there's a roleplaying campaign that has been waiting patiently, perhaps even without its owner's knowledge, for this website:
http://www.lpl.arizona.edu/impacteffects/
Basically, you enter in various parameters for a meteor/asteroid/other object (maybe a Death Star or a Borg Cube?) striking the earth, how far away from the impact you are, and the program calculates the effects of the impact and the effects on you (for instance, is there a fireball big enough to vaporize you and your fancy power armor? ).
Now is the time to create the scenario in your game that will give you an excuse to use this web page!
(Thanks to
Science News, always an enlightening magazine, for revealing the Earth Impact Effects Program. And for generally filling my head with fascinating trivia each week, too...)
Home Alone
John and I are here at the office ... which is weirdly QUIET while everyone else is off at Origins. With so few distractions, Thomas Denmark and I actually got the new Dungeoneer expansions -- Haunted Woods of Malthorin and Den of the Wererats -- off to press yesterday! With luck, we may have a few copies back in time for GenCon!
Scouting Out the Road Less Traveled
What's this? Why it's a review of
En Route III: The Road Less Traveled on
RPGnet. Want to get a deeper look inside the book? Check this out. It borders on the spoiler-ish, though, so beware.
My God, It's Full Of Stars and Whatnot
This week, the short version: I love this car. I think it might be my favorite of all the cars in the game.
Department of "Hey, That's Cool!"
I just noticed over on
Warehouse 23, that for three months running
Lunch Money: Sticks & Stones and
Lunch Money itself have been #1 and #2 sellers in their respective categories. Woo hoo!
Tomorrow at last we'll be shipping
Once Upon A Time: Dark Tales and
Create-Your-Own Storytelling Cards to distributors. Here's hoping they race up to grab the top spots for a change! (Though competition will be tough this month...besides the
Lunch Money stalwarts, they'll be battling against
Beer Money, which went on sale at W23 right at the start of June.)
He never drives it. He just rubs it with a diaper.
"The Ia! Ia! Sisterhood's Feararri placed first today after traversing the entire track in an astounding twenty-three seconds. To the surprise of commentators and fans watching at home, it was the only vehicle to cross the finish line. Two other racers are reported to have been escorted off the track and are currently listed in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital after being treated for bouts of hysterical blindness. The last racer, a souped-up Ferrari GT California roadster, which was in the starting position next to the winning Feararri, is said to have suddenly started leaking coolant when the Fearrari pulled up. The engine died shortly thereafter."
Back to the playtest
Ars Magica Fifth Edition has just gone into its final round of playtesting. So, I'm done with post-playtest edits for a bit, which is nice. This is the fifth round of playtesting that the new edition's had, and for this round the playtesters are concentrating solely on presentation. The last four rounds mean that we now have a set of rules with which I am happy, so the rules won't be changed at all.
But the best rules in the world are no good if no-one can understand them. So this time the playtesters will look at the flavour text, examples, and general presentation, looking for places where things are unclear. Some of the playtest groups have never played Ars Magica before, and probably never seen a copy of older editions. (Although they might have downloaded the
free PDF of Fourth Edition.) Their job is to tell me whether the manuscript really does contain enough information to let you play the game.
So, with that out of the way, I can get on with editing the supplements for Fifth Edition. This edition is going to be well-supported right from the beginning, and the first supplement won't be a GM screen, either.
Old-Fashioned Style with Older-than-Time-Fashioned Performance
Step right up, ladies and gentlemen, and feast your eyes on this handsome specimen of automobile! This is the classic, often-imitated, never-duplicated
Car of Cthulhu! It's retro chic with a chthonic shreik! This baby's got the horsepower and the cephalopodpower to get you there first, and the gorgeous ivory body to do it in style. Cream-colored, leathery interior comes standard, with optional powered windows and back-seat-mounted gramophone available now. Enjoy the luxury you deserve and the power you want with our custom-designed infernal-combustion engine with tentacular soul-intake/radiator filter system. Yes sir, this sweet machine is all class.
Plus, I think Harrison Ford drove one of these in Miskatonic Graffiti.
Distributor List
For a long time, a gaping hole in our website's
retailer section has been the lack of a comprehensive distributor list. At long last, Will and I have rectified this omission -- you can find the distributor list
here.
