Robin Laws Cracks Us Up

John recently stumbled over this little gem ... an interview with game designer Robin D. Laws, with numerous mentions of Feng Shui. Read it, it'll crack you up, too. ;)

Covenants Available for "PreOrder"

We just realized that the preorder feature for Covenants wasn't up yet, and have rectified that. If you can't find it at your friend local retail store, you can now order it by clicking on the button for Warehouse23 on its product page, as usual.

Also, the rules for Lunch Money have been translated into Czech by Alex Doktor. You can find that on its product page, as well. Thanks, Alex!

Sold Out: Calebais

The last three copies of The Broken Covenant of Calebais in our warehouse have been ordered by a distributor (for inclusion with their shipment of Covenants next week), so this adventure is now officially out of print. Sometime soon I hope to release it through RPGNow.com as a PDF; in the meantime, there are still plenty of copies in circulation at game stores and distributors ... including Warehouse 23, for the moment. But when folks sell out, we won't be able to restock them. If you've been thinking about adding this book to your Ars Magica collection, do not delay!

Covenants Update

The latest word from our printer is that Covenants is a little bit ahead of schedule. I told distributors I was expecting to ship next Friday (Feb. 3), but it sounds like the books may arrive in our warehouse as soon as Monday. We'll be able to commence shipping to non-US customers right away, but whether we can ship early to US distributors will depend on whether I get their numbers in ahead of the deadline I gave them. In any case, the slightly early arrival is good news (it means the books will actually be in our warehouse in January, the scheduled month of release!).

Atlas' Best Out of the Box

We're happy to report that Ken Hite recently mentioned Northern Crown, Ars Magica 5th Edition, and Rune in his "Legends of the Fall" year-end Out of the Box column, also known as the "Outie Awards."

Also in his "Twelve Days" top 12 of 2005 list, Ken features Northern Crown at number 9: "These two volumes cover a d20 treatment of North American legend and myth set in a vaguely colonial 1666 with Cotton Mather, Paul Bunyan, and Ben Franklin all wandering around. Wendigo, Headless Horsemen, and aerostats, oh my! Near-perfectly flavored, and packed with fresh-killed American meat. Plus, ties to Nyambe, for people who wanted to know what the other best roman-a-clef pastiche RPG setting ever was.

New Atlas Board Games Revealed!

I'm happy to announce that we now have game play images both Recess and Grand Tribunal up on their respective product pages, which show all the components in the games. As always, right click to open the image in its own window and view at larger size.

Also, I've up up the full card list and rules sheet for Grand Tribunal as a sneak peek for all you Ars Magica fans. Enjoy!

New Ars Magica Errata

The errata page for Ars Magica 5th Edition has been updated. The errata page is now divided into "new errata" and everything else, so you can quickly scan the most current updates, thanks to line developer David Chart. Good gaming!

Out of Print; Updates

This year began, like pretty much every other, with inventory taking and some warehouse work. Besides taking physical counts of our stock (and updating the out-of-print list accordingly), I also made decisions about clearing out some old, slow-moving products entirely, as we need to clear space in anticipation of the exciting new products of 2006.

Culling the Backlist

Status Reports

Here are brief updates on all the products on our published schedule.

AG4014 Glimpse of the Abyss (ISBN 1-58978-073-6, $29.95), Feng Shui Sourcebook: Horribly, horribly late. We're still waiting for the former line editor to give us the working files (and we've been waiting more than a year, unfortunately). Until we have them, we don't even know how long it will take to finish the book. We've already paid the authors and artists, so we'd really like the book to be finished, but we just don't know when.

AG0279 The Mysteries Revised (ISBN 1-58978-076-0, $29.95), Ars Magica Sourcebook: Another project that got derailed. Rather than have it screw up the release of the subsequent books in the line, we decided to push this title back, in order to get Covenants done on time. Our plan is for The Mysteries Revised to release in April, along with Houses of Hermes: Mystery Cults.

AG0280 Covenants (ISBN 1-58978-083-3, $29.95), Ars Magica Sourcebook: This book is now at press. The printer has given us an estimated delivery date of February 3rd.

AG1280 Grand Tribunal (ISBN 1-58978-084-1, $24.95), Board Game: This board game is now at press. We are manufacturing the game in Hong Kong, and this is our first time working with this particular supplier, so we're not sure how long the manufacturing and (the bigger unknown) shipping will take. We think we'll have printed samples at the GAMA Trade Show in March, but we're not sure when we'll actually have the games in our warehouse and ready to ship to distributors.

AG1290 Recess (ISBN 1-58978-085-X, $24.95), Board Game: This game is at press along with Grand Tribunal, so all the same comments apply to it.

AG0281 Houses of Hermes: Mystery Cults (ISBN 1-58978-086-8), Ars Magica Sourcebook: So far, this book is going smoothly and looks to be on track for release in April.

Grand Tribunal & Recess at Press!

I'm happy to announce that Grand Tribunal and Recess are both now at press. We're working with a new printer and have been very happy with our dealings with them so far, so we're hoping that the games will be here sometime in April. The rules for Recess are already up on its product page, and I should find time to put up the rules and cardlist for Grand Tribunal sometime this week, so be sure to check back!

Top Ten Lists

It's a new year, and that means it's time to take a quick look back at 2005. As I have for the past few years, I'm presenting to all and sundry two lists of our best-sellers for the year just past. The first list is ranked by units of sales; the second by gross receipts (in other words, a more expensive game or book may rank higher than a less expensive one that sold more copies). An asterisk indicates a title that was newly released in 2005 -- since most titles have their strongest sales within a few months after release, the ones that make it to these lists without the asterisks are especially impressive in terms of evergreen sales (and, if you happen to be a buyer for a store or a wholesaler, they are the games you especially want to make sure you keep in stock).

Without further ado...
