Gaming as Culture

I'm pleased to announce the release of Gaming As Culture: Social Reality, Identity and Experience in Fantasy Games. This is the collection of academic essays on RPGs for which a chapter from my dissertation was accepted. Info is at www.gamingcultures.com, and it can be ordered through Amazon.com.

Get Your Own Mystery Cults

The newest book for Ars Magica 5th Edition is now available for pre-order through Warehouse 23! If you don't have a friendly local games store, you can place an order for the book by clicking the Warehouse 23 button in the left column of the Mystery Cults product page. (Note that W23 won't have the books until next week, so if you do have a FLGS and they are able to get Ars Magica sourcebooks for you, we encourage you to give them your business!)

Unexpected Arrival

Much to my surprise, our printer's truck just pulled up and dropped off the newest Ars Magica sourcebook -- Houses of Hermes: Mystery Cults, ten days early. Also on the truck was the reprint of Houses of Hermes: True Lineages.

Unfortunately, I'm still buried in business that piled up on our vacation. I haven't quite finished packing all of the restock orders that came in while I was away, let alone answered the dozens of e-mails that need customer service and whatnot. I probably will not ship orders to US distributors before the original date we'd planned (4/17), since I only yesterday gave them a deadline of next Friday (4/14) for orders. I may be able to ship books to some non-US customers next week, however, and in any case it's nice to have the books in the warehouse ahead of schedule, as it will allow me to spread the load of the box-packing work across several days...

Seismic on Game Table

While we were away, Seismic got a mention from Ward Batty on The Game Table.

"Atlas Game[s] has a clever road building/earthquake game called Seismic. I had the opportunity to play the game with designer Ted Alspach. Players build roads and score for the length as well as the value of the ends, but all roads lead from San Andreas, California, so players are going to lose roads to earthquakes. The game won't be available until July."

Designer's Guideline Update

I've just updated our Writer's/Designer's Guidelines page. It now includes a bulleted list of things we're looking for in card game and board game proposals. Talking with James Ernest at GAMA Trade Show got me started thinking about this, and I ended up subjecting my friends to my rants about it for the rest of the show. Now I've had two weeks of vacation to ponder over it, as well. The result is at www.atlas-games.com/information_writer.php under "What We Look For."

Special Ops Quarterly Drawing

Atlas Games is pleased to announce that Tony Brock of Salem, Oregon is the winner of this quarter's Special Ops prize drawing. Tony will get to choose a prize from among the rare and and one-of-a-kind Atlas Games items reserved for the Special Ops drawing.

Special Ops is Atlas Games' corps of loyal fans who organize and run demos and tournaments at retail stores and conventions across the country and around the world. At the end of each quarter, Special Ops demo team members who have run a game in the last three months are entered into a prize drawing for special Atlas items. The next drawing will be July 3rd, and will feature a choice of prizes such as press sheets and original art from our popular ArsMagica , Feng Shui, and Unknown Armies RPGs, and from card game favorites like Dungeoneer, Lunch Money, and Once Upon a Time.

Atlas is also happy to announce that the following Special Ops members have gone up in rank this quarter:

Darren Miguez (Magus 500 HP)
Erik Lee (Avatar, 200 HP)
Neil Taylor (Avatar, 200 HP)
Tony Brock (Grog, 50 HP)

Congratulations to all of you, and keep up the great work!

Also, we'd like to welcome the following new recruits:

Well, we're back from our vacation ... three continents in two weeks has left us pretty well exhausted! But we'll try to get to everything that piled up while we were gone as soon as possible. :)
