News from Atlas Games

Special Ops Drawing

Atlas Games is pleased to announce that Neil Taylor of Cambridge, UK is the winner of this quarter's Special Ops prize drawing. Neil will get to choose a prize from among the rare and and one-of-a-kind Atlas Games items reserved for the Special Ops drawing.

Special Ops is Atlas Games' corps of loyal fans who organize and run demos and tournaments at retail stores and conventions across the country and around the world. At the end of each quarter, Special Ops demo team members who have run a game in the last three months are entered into a prize drawing for special Atlas items. The next drawing will be March 31st, and will feature a choice of prizes such as press sheets and original art from our popular Ars Magica, Feng Shui, Penumbra D20, and Unknown Armies RPGs, and from card game favorites like Dungeoneer, Lunch Money, and Once Upon a Time.

Atlas is also happy to announce that Barry Figgins has gone up to Avatar rank (200 HP) this quarter. Congratulations to Barry, and keep up the great work!

Also, we'd like to welcome Dean Midgley as a new recruit. Thanks for being a part of Special Ops, Dean!

If you're interested in joining Atlas Games' Special Ops demo team, just fill out and send in an Application Form. There's no obligation.

Faerie to Press!

I wrapped up the layout for Realms of Power: Faerie today, and turned the disk over to John. It should go to the printer imminently, and is on track for its February release. Yay!

"To Go" is Sold Out

The latest title to sell out from our warehouse is To Go, which was the most recently published supplement for Unknown Armies. Since the last couple of copies are leaving our warehouse today, you should still be able to find it through your favorite local game store, but when copies out on the shelves are gone, they're gone for good.

Extended RoP: Faerie Contents

We've decided to give the Table of Contents more room in Realms of Power: Faerie, so I've updated that download to include an extra TWO PAGES. Be sure to check out all the new faerie creatures listed, and lots of virtues and flaws for playing faerie characters!

Battle of the Geeks: Installment Four

Anybody feeling sorry for John yet? I've decided he obviously needs a little help proving that he's at least a little bit geeky compared to me. So ...

INSTALLMENT FOUR: OUR GAME COLLECTION
AKA THE PITY POST

As you'd imagine, John and I have quite a large game collection, so much so that it's spread out into multiple locations ... 5 shelves of D20 books plus 3 shelves of Atlas RPGs and card games are at the office, an entire closet of non-Atlas board games and card games are at home, and another 8 unopened cases of CCGs are in the basement along with around 15 boxes of old magazines like Dragon. But right now I'd like to compare our non-D20, non-Atlas RPG collection, which comprises 10 shelves downstairs.

I'd not mentioned this particular collection before because, to be fair, the RPGs I brought into our marriage took up 2 shelves, while the rest were John's. So, point to him there ... congrats, honey!

(Though of course, he didn't actually PAY for most of his, and I was a poor grad student at the time, so finances had something to do with that. And anyway, our good friends in the industry will know how finely honed my swag-collecting skills are, and intuit correctly that our collection has improved and increased dramatically due to my efforts over the past 9 years.)

But I am going to claim a point for actually setting up the shelves, unpacking all of his RPGs, sorting through them to get rid of about 6 boxes of doubles, and organizing them all by game system ... OCD has to count for something, right?

GEEK SCORE:

Michelle = 4
John = 1

Battle of the Geeks: Installment Three

Welcome once again to Battle of the Geeks, the series of blog posts in which I, Michelle Nephew, prove beyond a doubt that I am far and away a bigger geek than my husband John.

INSTALLMENT THREE: MICHELLE'S SECOND LIFE

You've heard of Second Life, right? The massively multiplayer online virtual world where you can actually build things yourself? Well, say hello to my Second Life avatar:

Yes, that's my steampunk outfit ... how observant of you! Oh, and what's that I'm standing on? Not a snowfield, no, that's a CLOUD, because you can FLY in Second Life. And it's not just any cloud, it's actually the building platform I set up above my island sim to create skyboxes on (floating houses for you non-SLers), which I then sell in Second Life. That's right ... I MAKE MONEY in Second Life.

Now, to be fair I must admit that John does have his little World of Warcarft hobby. HOWEVER, I'm not only a Second Life player, I'm a Second Life entrepreneur, and that's what makes all the difference. While John pays his $15 a month for WoW, I've actually MADE over $4,000 to date on Second Life. Notice the comma there? Just checking. ;)

GEEK SCORE:

Michelle = 3
John = 0
