Press Release: Atlas Games to Distribute Mythic Perspectives, the Ars Magica Magazine PRESS RELEASE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For Immediate Release 16 March, 2000 ATLAS GAMES TO PUBLISH RUNE RPG Roseville, MN -- Atlas Games and Human Head Studios announce that Atlas Games will publish a licensed pen-and-paper roleplaying game based on Human Head's upcoming RUNE(tm) 3D action computer game. The licensed game will be created by Robin D. Laws, the acclaimed designer of Feng Shui, Hero Wars, and the upcoming novel The Rough and the Smooth. Focusing on the elements of heroic Norse fantasy in the RUNE computer game, it will share core mechanics with Atlas Games' Ars Magica(tm) roleplaying game of medieval magic. The combination of the RUNE license, Ars Magica mechanics, and compelling backstory will provide an ideal entry point for computer game fans who are interested in finding out more about traditional pen-and-paper roleplaying games. Scheduled for release in November, 2000, RUNE will be supported with a pre-release quickstart RPG kit which will be available free at the August 2000 Gen Con Game Fair in Milwaukee. The RUNE pen-and-paper game will also be promoted in conjunction with the computer game release. "We are very pleased to be working with such a fantastic roleplaying game developer as Atlas Games," said Human Head Business Development Director Tim Gerritsen. "Atlas has the proven quality and sense of roleplaying design that we were looking for to take our game world to the RPG market. We are committed to expanding the fictional universe we created into a deeply compelling roleplaying experience. We are equally excited to have a designer of Robin's caliber on this project." Atlas Games President John Nephew said, "It is a thrill for us to be involved with the talented folks at Human Head and such a highly anticipated computer game as RUNE. We look forward to enhancing the world of RUNE through our RPG, and to attracting new tabletop RPG players from the computer game audience." RUNE is a third person 3D action game developed by Human Head Studios in partnership with Epic Games, to be published in Summer 2000 by Gathering of Developers. ORDO NOBILIS UPDATE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ordo Nobilis, the Ars Magica sourcebook of Mythic European nobility, is scheduled to ship to distributors in the last week of March. PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT: TRIAMORE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Triamore: The Covenant at Lucien's Folly For Ars Magica Fourth Edition "Of this covenant I can tell you this: That it is located within the lands of the Holy Roman Empire, on the skirts of that temporal power, and that it enjoys some standing with Frederick II. That it makes its home in a great castle, and holds a manor of land as might a temporal lord or abbot, with a village of peasants under its hand." -- Goliard of Tremere Triamore is an Ars Magica Fourth Edition sourcebook covering this unique covenant, its manorial holdings, and the surrounding region. It's more than a narrow treatment of these topics, though -- it's a treatise on the society, politics, and manorial life that surround every covenant, explaining how Triamore, Bois de Haillot, and Brabant are similar to -- or differ from -- every covenant, village, county, or duchy across Mythic Europe. More than that, Triamore presents a complete overview of a living, thriving covenant, ready for occupation as-is by a group of player characters, for use as a detailed NPC covenant, or merely as an example of what a well-developed covenant can be in an Ars Magica campaign, filled with ideas that may be scavenged for your own saga. For any storyguide or player seeking a focused look at day-to-day life in a covenant and in rural medieval society, Triamore is a complete and detailed study.
